Today I ask what to expect once I go to Chicago on the 17th Nov. and a friend wrote this to me...and what to do once I get there she explains:
Room 3b is where you register and pay your copay and than you wait in 3F to see the doctor. I think they weigh you and take your BP and than the doctor comes in and explains the surgery and the risks. He will scare the crap out of you because he tells you everything that can go wrong. I think he just wants you to be informed of the risk. Then he will answer any questions you have. Than he submits your case to your PCP. Be prepared for a wait as he doesn't employ much office help. I waited a month to find out if I was approved only to find out my Pcp never received it . It took about 3weeks after that to get the paperwork from the surgeon and my referral from my Doctor. Than you wait for Dr. Vitello to call and give you a surgery date. This can take a while so don't get discouraged. It is definately worth the wait. Also I am sure he will let you do all the testing for preop at your normal Drs. office . He did with me because of me being in an HMO My Insurance required it. If you have anymore questions feel free to email me.
and then this from his office (nurse)
Dr. Vitello will let you know which tests you'll need done but you can have them ordered by your PCP and have them done where you live then fax the info to the Dr. If I remember correctly, they have to be done within 30 days of the surgery. They'll let you know the specifics.
Nancy........
This is so gr8,I can now rest assure that I'm prepared and know what to look forward to....
My doctor here is all for it so he will give me definately the thumbs up on any or all test....
Dr.Vitello is a very nice man when I talked with him few days ago...he seems to be very concern and very promising to me.....and made sure I had the right address and instructions..... :-)
